The HTC Desire runs the Android 2.1 Eclair operating system with the addition of the Sense user interface from HTC. It is powered by a 1 GHz processor along with 576 megabytes of random access memory and impressive battery life to allow it to run multiple applications seamlessly. The HTC Desire provides a simplistic and easy-to-use interface with Sense on top of the powerful Android operating system which is capable of running the many useful preinstalled applications simultaneously.

The HTC Desire has a 5 megapixel camera  with auto focus and flash for poor light conditions, providing a simple interface to capture photos, aided further by face detection software. Videos meanwhile, can also be recorded in widescreen ratio and played back on the large touch sensitive 3.7 inch display, with pinch-to-zoom capability. Videos can be shared on the integrated YouTube, as images can on Flickr, or other social networks such as Facebook and Twitter which are also integrated.
